Days 63-65: Bangkok, Thailand

Around 7 am the bus came to rest near, but not in Mo Chit bus terminal.  Along with many other passengers, we were a bit confused.  Checking our location with the ever helpful Ulmon City Guides App, we found the terminal just down the street, where we hopped onto one of many city buses scheduled to stop a few km away at the Mo Chit BTS (Skytrain) station.  From there we made our way slowly through the morning heat back to Suhkumvit, to the Regency Park Hotel (Booked as result of a “mystery deal” via Agoda: the hotel is heavily discounted, but its name and exact location are not revealed until after reserving)

Ashley located with ease a past favorite bagel place nearby; the Western meal was much welcomed after a grueling 754 km ride around the Mae Hong Son loop.  That afternoon we took a short MRT (subway) ride to Lumpini Park, Bangkok’s largest public park, to lounge and read.

Next morning we ventured to a few more shops and Victory Monument, a historic war memorial centered on a massive traffic circle.  For dinner we walked across Suhkumvit to Isao, a famous Sushi restaurant.  Undoubtedly, it was one of our favorite meals of our whole trip.

Our final day in Thailand, all that needed to be done was to get to the airport.  Not to be subject to the hassle of getting a taxi (our least favorite travel activity), we were able to find the local bus from Victory Monument to Don Muang Airport, Bangkoks’ smaller and older airport to the north.
